The Alin Paper Company
was founded in 1971 by Nila and Rex Saylor and was named after Nila, except spelled backwards to Alin. The first retail store was opened in Norwalk, CA and sold paper products of many kinds, with an emphasis on retail sales of banquet and party supplies.
Our Riverside Store
opened in 1976/77 and was originally located in an old grocery store on Arlington Ave. After a center remodel, it moved into a smaller building and then in 1995, this store was relocated to the current location on Magnolia Ave.
The 2nd store
opened a year later in Cerritos, CA. As it was much larger and located too close to the original store, it continued on and the Norwalk store closed in 1975.
1981 saw the opening
of the first location in Lakewood and 1985 a store in Downey. By 1988, ownership changed hands. Dennis Fitzgerald and Bernie Lyons Sr. bought it and renamed it Alin Party Supply Co. They expanded from paper products, to giftware, and more party supplies. Alin now stocks over 40,000 individual party supplies, giftware, and seasonal products in a given year.
ALL ABOUT SHERRY
Sherry Baur is our Riverside store manager and a resident of Riverside. She just celebrated her 36 year anniversary!
Sherry fondly remembers the beginning, “The register at that time consisted of an adding machine and a muffin tin that was kept in a drawer to keep the money.” She added, “Boy how we have progressed since those days! Our product is ever changing and growing with the times. It’s exciting to see all the new merchandise that comes in and I love that!”

Ask anyone and they’ll tell you she thinks of them as her own. She also enjoys her annual pass to Disneyland, crocheting and knitting. (Even though she says it makes her sound to be 100 years old!)
ALL ABOUT ROBERTA
August 29, 1986, was the start of a great relationship, when Alin Party Supply hired Roberta Fleming as a part time clerk/balloon employee. From that first day Roberta has done nothing but excel and advance in her long term commitment to our company.
She became the Lakewood store Requisitioner in July 1989 and then moved to the corporate office as Payroll Manager in August 1995. In 1997 the current Seasonal Buyer, Norm Howell, decided he would retire and started training his replacement. Roberta moved into the Buyer position in September 1997 and now currently holds the title of Director of Merchandise.
Roberta enjoys working on home improvement projects with her husband, Scott, on their home in Long Beach. She loves to cook and entertain her family & friends and some day hopes to retire to her favorite place, Hawaii.
Alin Party Supply has benefited greatly from Roberta’s vast product knowledge and overall great understanding of the retail party industry. We congratulate her on her 30th year with us and thank her for her continued hard work and dedication.
